Tour the first purple tea farm in Kenya

8:00 am: Pick up from your city hotel/Residence

The guests will gather at City Market at 8 am and depart from Nairobi at 8:30 am

9:30 am: Arrive in Gatura Greens, Gatanga

The experience starts with tea and freshly baked scones for the guests. While enjoying their treats, the host provides an informal history of the farm. This is followed by an introductory tea tasting featuring the most popular varieties from our very own speciality cottage tea factory.

10:00 am: Purple Tea Farm Tour

After learning about the farm and tasting the popular tea selection made at the factory, guests head out to the purple tea farm. While at the farm, guests are taught how to pick tea and get to pick some of their very own. This tea will then be taken back to the farm, where guests will be taught how to make their very own speciality, orthodox tea (this includes learning to roast it, roll it by hand, dry it, and then pack it for themselves to take home).

11.45 am: Tea tasting

 

Guests are then treated to an expansive tea tasting of all the delicious variants made at our cottage tea factory, including our luxurious tea line, the tips variant

The tea-tasting session features over 10 varieties crafted at the facility’s cottage factory; along with lunch and a refreshing dip in a nearby waterfall, it’s an adventure not to be missed.

12:20 pm: Waterfall Trek and Swimming

After guests make their own hand-picked and rolled purple tea, they head off to the waterfall trek through a beautiful bamboo forest, finishing with a refreshing dip at the waterfall by the farm.

1.30 pm: Lunch

Guests then return to the farmhouse in time for a delicious farm-fresh 3-course lunch served with a refreshing hibiscus ice tea.

3:00 pm: Departure

Guests can leave at their leisure when ready.

Purple Tea Farm Tour Charges

  • Citizens: Ksh 4,200 per person, Ksh 2,000 for children under 12, and Free for children under 5.
  • Residents: Ksh 4,950 per person, Ksh 2,500 for children under 12, and Free for children under 5.
  • Non-residents: USD 45 per person, USD 25 for children under 12, and Free for children under 5.

Purple Tea Farm Tour Time

  • Tours take place every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday between 9:30 AM to 3.00 PM.
  • Reservation is highly recommended

Also note:

  • As you will be taking a short trek down the farm to the waterfall, kindly wear comfortable sneakers with a decent grip.
  • Feel free to bring on a bottle of your favourite drink (wine, beer, or soft drink) should you wish to have some during lunch while relaxing at the farm.
