The Naivasha Raptor Centre is located on the Kilimandege Sanctuary, South Lake Road, Lake Naivasha. Naivasha Raptor Centre, which is part of the Kenya Bird of Prey Trust, is designed to serve as a first base for incoming injured birds where initial treatment and housing are provided, as well as longer-term care for recovering and permanently injured raptors for public educational display.
The Naivasha Raptor Centre is run by Shiv Kapila and his team, who are responsible for handling, feeding, and taking care of the birds. They also clean the enclosures and provide interactive and educational tours to visitors who have made appointments. The Raptor Centre uses birds in rehabilitation to educate visitors, including school children, about the importance of conservation and the consequences of losing these birds to the ecosystem.
Current raptor accommodation caters for 28 birds. Phase one of the special vulture enclosures was completed in 2020, along with individual enclosures to suit the different birds in care. An on-site clinic capable of providing basic raptor first aid ensures that injured or poisoned birds can receive immediate attention when they are brought in.
The Naivasha Raptor Centre is such a brilliant, unique, and interesting activity, and a project well worth supporting. Experience birds of prey like never before; learn about their rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation in Kenya. Meet Shiv Kapila and all the amazing species he looks after, such as vultures, eagles, and owls—each with an engaging story of plight followed by rescue.
When you visit Naivasha Raptor Centre, you will have a unique opportunity to get down and close with the vultures in permanent care. Sit and watch them quietly, or interact with them and get to know their unique characters. Remember not to wear shoes with shoelaces; they love to steal them! You are guaranteed to form a whole new attitude towards vultures by the time you leave.

The Soysambu Raptor Centre
The Soysambu Raptor Centre in Soysambu Conservancy consists of ten enclosures that host 15–22 birds at a time. Box crates enable intensive care for 7 birds at a time. The combination of facilities and remote location properly fulfils the requirement of raptor rehabilitation, which is necessary for soft, slow-monitored releases into the wild. The Soysambu Raptor Centre works in unison with the Naivasha Raptor Centre.
