Mathioya River Lodge, Muranga (Review)

In this article, we will cover Mathioya River Lodge in Murang’a County. The Mathioya River Lodge is on the North Mathioya riverfront, overlooking the Mathioya River, small-scale tea farm ridges, and their interlocking valleys.

These riverfront countryside self-catering cottages occupy pristine natural locations in the Aberdare ranges. The Mathioya River Lodge is home to two self-catering facilities, which are still part of Aberdare Cottages and Fishing Lodge.

The self-catering cottages consist of 2 bedrooms and can accommodate up to 10 people. One of the bedrooms has 2 beds, while the other has 3 beds. There is a lounging area furnished with couches, a kitchen, and a fireplace to keep you warm and cosy.

One of the bedrooms is self-contained with a bathtub for your relaxation. The other bedroom has a shared bathroom located next to it. Additionally, there is a barbecue facility placed on the verandah for you to enjoy outdoor cooking.

Once you arrive, take your time to sit on a bench by the grass and watch the river flow. As the sun shines its last rays on your face, reminisce about all the great travel moments and feel deeply connected to nature. Try to focus on nothing but the sound of the river, the chirping of the birds, the blowing wind, and the reflection of the sunset on the river.

There is a spacious field located next to the entrance, which is ideal for team-building activities. Just imagine having a house party with your friends or family, enjoying a barbecue, telling stories by the fireplace, playing games, and having fun at the river banks.

One of the best things to do there is to take a tour down to the Mathioya River. You can have a picnic by the river while others go fly fishing. The lodge and the river are known for having some of the best trout fishing destinations in all of Kenya. The guides are very knowledgeable and friendly, so whether you’re an experienced angler or a beginner, you’re sure to have a great time on the river.
