Aberdare Cottages and Fishing Lodge
The Aberdare Cottages and Fishing Lodge is a family-owned and operated establishment that offers a perfect getaway from home. They provide various types of accommodation, such as wooden chalets, tented chalets, and eco-luxury chalets made from recycled packaging. Besides accommodation, the lodge has other amenities like a restaurant, a bar, a meeting hall that can accommodate up to 50 people, an outdoor sitting area, and balconies in every room.
Once you arrive, take your time to sit on a bench by the grass and watch the river flow. As the sun shines its last rays on your face, reminisce about all the great travel moments and feel deeply connected to nature. Try to focus on nothing but the sound of the river, the chirping of the birds, the blowing wind, and the reflection of the sunset on the river.
There is a spacious field located next to the entrance, which is ideal for team-building activities. Just imagine having a house party with your friends or family, enjoying a barbecue, telling stories by the fireplace, playing games, and having fun at the river banks.
Behind the lodge, you can find a short nature trail that leads to a small yet picturesque waterfall. Adjacent to the waterfall, there is a comfortable sitting area. This area is very peaceful and secluded, making it an ideal spot for reading, meditating, practising yoga, and for couples to enjoy some quality time together.
One of the best things to do there is to take a tour down to the Mathioya River. You can have a picnic by the river while others go fly fishing. The lodge and the river are known for having some of the best trout fishing destinations in all of Kenya. The guides are very knowledgeable and friendly, so whether you’re an experienced angler or a beginner, you’re sure to have a great time on the river.
Nearby, you can visit tea farms and factories, whose products are also available at the lodge’s reception. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to observe the water piping system of the Gtunguru Hydroelectric Power Plant. This plant sources its water from the Mathioya River and supplies four tea factories. Additionally, if you have enough time, you can also visit Mathioya Dam.
After a long day of exploration, you can unwind and relax at the lodge. The staff will take good care of you, ensuring that you have a comfortable and homey stay. You can enjoy delicious meals and cosy evenings by the fire, as every detail is thoughtfully considered.
