How To Replace A Lost Kenyan Passport In 2024

This is a step-by-step procedure on how to replace a lost Kenyan passport. A passport is a document issued to Kenyan citizens by the Directorate of Immigration Services and is valid for a maximum period of 10 years to enable them to travel abroad.

In September 2017, Kenya launched the e-Passport system to issue digital passports in compliance with ICAO document 9303 and the East African Community Summit resolution. If you lose your Kenyan passport, you will need to apply for another passport to travel.

Requirements for Replacement of a Lost Kenyan Passport

  1. Police Abstract for loss of passport
  2. An affidavit detailing the circumstances under which the loss of the passport occurred
  3. Three coloured Passport size photographs
  4. Duly completed Passport application form and two payment invoices
  5. Personal statement or letter explaining how you lost the passport
  6. Copy of the lost passport bio-data page, if available
  7. Original ID and a copy for Adults
  8. Original birth certificate and photocopy
  9. Payment of the prescribed fee of Ksh 20,050

How to Replace a Lost Kenyan Passport

  1. Log into the e-citizen portal
  2. Select Directorate of Immigration Services
  3. Select passport application
  4. Choose the passport owner, whether it is yourself or your child
  5. Choose the passport type, whether it is ordinary or diplomatic
  6. Choose the type of application, in this case, select a lost passport
  7. Fill in the passport application form completely and accurately. Fill in the correct information.
  8. Pay the required amount of Kshs 20,050 which is the fee charged for the replacement of the lost passport
  9. Download the application form
  10. Book an appointment with the Immigration Department in the County
  11. Attend your appointment in person with the required documents

NOTE:

This process takes approximately 5 business days, after which your passport will be ready for pickup. Identity verification is required when receiving the passport.

The current Passport Application and Processing Stations are in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu Embu, Nakuru, Kisii and Eldoret and in six foreign missions London, Washington DC, Berlin, Pretoria, Dubai and Paris. One must appear in person for the collection of fingerprints.
