In this article, we look at Mount Elgon National Park Entrance Fees. Mount Elgon National Park is a protected area located in eastern Uganda and western Kenya. It is named after Mount Elgon, a dormant stratovolcano that is the park’s main feature. The park covers an area of approximately 1,279 square kilometres and is known for its diverse landscapes, rich biodiversity, and cultural heritage.

At the centre of the national park is Mount Elgon, an ancient volcano that reaches an elevation of 4,321 meters. It is the fourth-highest mountain in East Africa and offers various hiking and climbing opportunities. The mountain has several peaks, including Wagagai, which is the highest point in Uganda. Mount Elgon has a series of stunning crater lakes formed by past volcanic activity. These lakes, such as Lake Elgon and Lake Kwoera, are scattered throughout the park and offer picturesque views and opportunities for birdwatching.

Mount Elgon National Park is home to a wide range of flora and fauna. Its diverse ecosystems include montane forests, bamboo zones, moorland, and alpine areas. The park supports over 300 species of birds, including the endangered Lammergeier and Jackson’s Francolin. Other wildlife species found in the park include elephants, buffalos, hyenas, duikers, and various primates such as black-and-white colobus monkeys and blue monkeys.

Mount Elgon National Park also provides excellent opportunities for trekking and hiking. There are various trails of different lengths and difficulty levels that lead to different points of interest, including mountain peaks, hot springs, and waterfalls. The Sasa and Sipi Falls trails are popular among visitors. The indigenous communities living around Mount Elgon, such as the Bagisu and Sabiny people, have a rich cultural heritage. Visitors can explore their traditions, including circumcision ceremonies, traditional dances, and local crafts.

The park is easily accessible from the towns of Mbale in Uganda and Kitale in Kenya. There are several trails and routes available for hikers of different skill levels, making it a suitable destination for both experienced trekkers and beginners.
