1. Kapsimotwa Gardens

Kapsimotwa Garden is located in the Nandi Hills’ highlands. It is approximately 60 kilometres from Eldoret and approximately 10 kilometres from Nandi Hills. Once in Nandi Hills Town, take a rough road to the tea plantations. Kapsimotwa Farm includes Kapsimotwa Garden. It was founded in the 1930s by a British settler named Bushwell to help other white settlers. It is thought to have over 100 flower and plant species.

This is a beautiful gem hidden and one of the best places to visit in Nandi Hills. It consists of a lovely garden, a sprawling tea estate, and a remarkably well-kept garden. The entrance to the garden is breathtaking, and the flower gardens are meticulously maintained. The garden also features man-made ponds, streams, and a large lake in the centre.

Weddings, retreats, camps, parties, and picnics are all held in the garden. You have the option of bringing your food, cooking it on-site, or trying their buffet on request for about Ksh 800 per person. The entrance fee is Ksh 500 per vehicle and Ksh 100 per person. Sport fishing is available for Ksh 500 while camping on their grounds costs Ksh 1,000 per tent. 

2. Chepkiit Conservancy and Waterfalls

The Chepkiit Conservancy and Waterfalls are located on the Nandi-Kapsabet Road. It is located 26 kilometres from Eldoret Town and a few kilometres from Eldoret International Airport. Chepkiit Conservancy and Waterfall contain both exotic and native trees. It has a peaceful atmosphere and a cool breeze from the gnashing water.

Chepkiit, which means “view from above,” is also known as “Mlango Falls.” The Chepkiit waterfall is an unforgettable sight. The waterfall can be seen from three different perspectives: sideways, upstream, and downstream. The location provides camping areas for you and your friends. Not to mention that the location is ideal for picnics and retreats. The conservatory’s entrance fee is approximately Ksh100 per person.

3. Kesses Dam

Kesses Dam is situated about 35 km south of Eldoret Town and covers an estimated 5000 hectares of land. It is one of the eminent tourist attractions in Uasin Gishu County. The Dam was established during the Colonial Era by Symon, William, and Jackson, among other white settlers, in 1948. It was mainly established for water and sports.

The artificial water catchment area is mostly used by Moi University students for recreational purposes such as boat riding and team building but it recently emerged that a small group of villagers around the dam go to worship there on Saturdays. Animals traditionally known as “Sitatunga” inhabit there and this attracts a great number of domestic tourists to the dam. Kesses Dam supplies its water to Moi University and St. Catherine Girls High School, among other social amenities, besides being used for domestic use and irrigation by residents from Koisagat, Tulwet, and Kaplelach villages. A boat ride at Kesses dam costs Ksh 100.

4. Two River Dam

The two-river dam is situated along the Eldoret-Naiberi road. It is next to Kolol Resort and among residential houses. This is a man-made dam constructed by the local government to control the flow of water as well as provide enough for the nearby village. The dam is beautiful, and the roaring sound of massive amounts of water can be heard for miles. It’s a popular tourist destination, and you can remove your shoes and walk in the shallow river created by the dam.

5. Sergoit Hill

Sergoit Hill is a rock outcrop that rises above the Uasin Gishu Plateau. The Hill, which is located on the west side of the Great Rift Valley, has an elevation of approximately 6,857 feet (2,090 metres) above sea level, according to sources. It is located 20 kilometres northeast of Eldoret and 3 kilometres off the Eldoret-Iten road towards Moiben.

Sergoit Hill has a pleasant climate, which draws visitors, and it is surrounded by prime agricultural land. The view from the hilltop is spectacular. It is also an excellent hiking location. Its terrain can be rough and difficult, but also exciting. Mt. Kenya can be seen to the east, Mt. Elgon to the west, the undulating Nandi Hills to the south, and the expansive Cherangany Hills to the north on a clear day. Sergoit Hill serves as a wildlife sanctuary and is co-owned by the Kruger Family, who have lived at the foot of the Hill since 1908. The Sanctuary is home to a variety of wildlife, including the Rothschild Giraffe, which is one of the most endangered giraffe species and a priority in wildlife conservation, as well as antelopes, duikers, and a wide range of birds.

6. Koromosho Falls

The beautiful Koromosho Falls on River Sosiani in Uasin Gishu County. It is situated about 20 kilometres to the west of Eldoret, where River Sosiani plunges 70 metres from the flat fertile plateau over a granite escarpment. The sound of the water is the only feature that portrays the falls, hidden in a mass of rocks and trees. From the high rocks downstream, one can see a big cave behind the falling waters, where residents say some animals live.

The winding V-shaped valley cut by the Sosiani adds to the beauty of the scene. From the river bed, the valley rises on both sides some metres and ends only some kilometres downstream after Ndalat Hills near Kapkaren. Upstream, Ken Gen has built a dam to trap the river and divert it through a canal to turbines that generate electricity whenever the water overflows during the rains.

7. Naiberi River Campsite and Resort

Located 16 km from Eldoret, 400 metres off the tarmac on the Eldoret – Kaptagat – Eldama Ravine road, Naiberi is truly nature’s creation, designed to take its guests as far back as the stone age with a little touch of modern-day luxury. It is created on hilly forest tribal land, which was once home to members of the ancient Sirikwa tribe. Preserved on the site are excavations with stone sides, commonly called Sirikwa holes, which are believed to have been roofed and occupied by the inhabitants of a bygone age. There’s also a swimming pool, nature trails, and the Naiberi River passing through the grounds.

8. Kerio Valley Viewpoint

Kerio Valley is located between the Elgeyo escarpments and Tugen Hill, at an elevation of about 1,000 metres above sea level. The views from the Rift Valley Viewpoint on your way to Naivasha are nothing compared to those found here. The panoramic, picturesque views of Kerio Valley and the Rift Valley can be seen from Chororget Church Rock Viewpoint and Samich Resort, located on the border of Uasin Gishu and overlooking Elgeyo Marakwet county.
