Mambrui Sand Dunes Entrance Fees

In this article, we will cover Mambrui Sand Dunes Entrance Fees. Mambrui Dunes is a hidden gem boasting spectacular white sand dunes, the only ones in Kenya. It is located on both sides of the Malindi-Lamu Highway, 6 km from Malindi town and just 21 minutes from Malindi International Airport.

As you travel along the characteristic road to Mambrui, which is lined with numerous huge baobabs, you’ll be treated to a view of the outfall of the Sabaki River, which serves as a source of irrigation for many plantations in the area. The beautiful dunes, which almost reach the sea, are particularly impressive at sunset. With a little bit of luck, you may even encounter a family of hippos.

The Mambrui Sand Dunes stretch from Ngomeni to the northeast to the mouth of the river Sabaki to the south. The tall and clean features hug the sea, making them alluring to visitors. Aside from Mambrui’s archaeological and historical importance, it is known for its beautiful, untouched sand dunes. Mambrui is also home to Kola Beach, also known as the region’s ‘golden beach’ due to the occurrence of sand dunes by the beach..

To Get There

The Mambrui Sand Dunes are located approximately 50 minutes away from Malindi town. It is best to use a tuk-tuk or boda boda to get there, as the dunes are quite a distance from the main road. The tuk-tuk ride will cost you about Ksh 600 to and from.

Mambrui Sand Dunes

A fascinating sandy beach with massive dunes that resemble a desert. The sand is glittery gold and from a distance, it looks like the dunes are striped in a mixture of fawn and black. Unlike other beaches in the south and Mombasa sides, here the sand is very fine and constantly blown by the wind, like in a desert. Be prepared to pay a small fee to the local self-appointed community guides who charge you to see the place and support their local community, as they don’t have jobs. As with everything else in Kenya, you can negotiate the fees, especially as they may view you as a tourist from Nairobi or Bara, as they call it. Of course, the ‘mzungu’ price will be different.

The guides are friendly and will show you around, and also take care of your belongings if you want to take a dip in the ocean. However, some boda boda guys often pass by the beach as part of their daily route and may pick up your stuff and ride away.

You’ll enjoy amazing, almost endless views of the sand dunes. If you have a drone, you can take spectacular pictures here. The sand dunes lead you to the beach, providing an opportunity to cool down after trekking in the sand. The only downside is that there is no refreshment spot nearby, so you have to carry your drinks if you plan to stay for more than an hour. Make time to visit this place with your family, loved ones, and friends and enjoy the beauty of the sand dunes.
