Here is a list of all public libraries and their locations in Kenya. All public libraries in Kenya are managed by the Kenya National Library Service (KNLS), a statutory body of the Government of Kenya established in 1965 by an Act of Parliament, Cap 225 of the laws of Kenya. The KNLS is mandated to “promote, establish, equip, manage, maintain and develop libraries in Kenya.”
Libraries play a vital role in providing a serene environment where people can research and get valuable information to quench their thirst. They have amazing collections of African books, creatively written to suit readers. Their inventories also have old newspapers dating back a few centuries. However, counties like Nyamira, Tana River, Tharaka Nithi, Turkana, Kirinyaga, Busia, Homabay, Kajiado, Lamu, Machakos Samburu, Vihiga and West Pokot don’t even have a single national public library.
