Here is a guide on how to book an NTSA driving test through eCitizen. The National Transport and Safety Authority Act (NTSA) is a statutory body established by the National Transport and Safety Authority Act (2012) to bring about sanity in our roads. When an applicant is satisfied that he/she can take a driving test, he/she shall be required to book a test stating the date, time and location he/she would like to go for the driving test.
A test booking certificate shall be issued upon payment of the prescribed fee. All driving tests are undertaken at Driving Test Units (DTU) which are based across the country. The driving tests are conducted by driving test examiners (DTE) and shall include a test of the applicant’s
- Knowledge of the rules of the road
- Knowledge of recognized road signals and road signs
- Knowledge of any authorized road or highway code
- Physical fitness to drive a motor vehicle of the class for which the license is required.
Requirements to Book an NTSA Driving Test
The Minimum Requirements for enrolment to train as a small vehicle driver include:
- One should not be less than 18 years old.
- One should have obtained a Police clearance certificate.
- One should have no criminal record.
- One should have no previous dangerous driving offence record.
- One should have a medical test certificate.
- One should be able to read and write in the official languages.
How To Book An NTSA Driving Test
1. Log in to the eCitizen website. You will be required to provide your email address or your National ID Number and password to access the online portal. If you are logging in for the first time, you will have to create or sign up for an account.
2. Click on “Apply for a Driving License”.
3. Click on “Application for Provisional Driving License”.
4. A page will be displayed requiring you to fill in relevant information. Correctly fill in the information.
5. After reviewing the details and you are satisfied that the information you have given is accurate, then, click submit.
6. Proceed to make payments. You will be required to pay a fee of Ksh 650. The payment is non-refundable and can be paid via M-PESA or any other relevant means.
7. After successfully making the payment, click on complete.
8. After you have paid and submitted a successful application, you can proceed and print the NTSA Provincial Driving Licence slip.
NOTE: Once an applicant has passed a driving test, he shall be issued with a certificate of competence (C of C) indicating the class or classes of motor vehicle he is permitted to drive. The C of C is valid for three (3) months, and upon expiry, it will be at the discretion of the licensing officer to decide whether the applicant will undergo another driving test, or on the contrary, approve the application for payment of the driving license.
