Crescent Island Game Sanctuary Entrance Fees

In this post, we will focus on Crescent Island Game Sanctuary Entrance Fees. Crescent Island is located on Lake Naivasha, in the Great Rift Valley, Kenya. It is one of the most beautiful parks in Kenya and is often called Naivasha’s best-kept secret.

Crescent Island is surrounded by water, it is a peninsula and is currently only accessible by boat from the East or West side. The park has miles of walking trails and abundant wildlife that provides a 360-degree view of Mt. Longonot to Hell’s Gate to the Mau Escarpment to Eburu and onto the Aberdares, the view simply blows your mind away. The shores host abundant birdlife including pelicans, cormorants, and fish-eagles with their haunting cry. There are more animals per acre than in any other Kenyan Park, hence many film companies have been to the Island to film the herds of Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Zebra, and Gazelle. For bird lovers, bring along your binoculars as there is plenty of birdlife to watch while experiencing close wildlife encounters and a boat ride around Lake Naivasha.

How To Get To Crescent Island

Crescent Island is only accessible by boat. Several operators offer boat rides to and from Crescent Island. Because the island is surrounded by water, you will need to pay for a boat ride from either east or west depending on your location. However, keep in mind that the only amount payable during the transfer is for the boat transfer and does not include the entrance fees, which are ONLY paid upon arrival at Crescent Island’s entrance. You can combine your boat transfer to Crescent Island with a one-hour boat cruise on Lake Naivasha.

Crescent Island Activities

Crescent Island Game Sanctuary is ideal for those seeking fresh air and solitude. A fresh air breeze is guaranteed throughout your adventure here because it is surrounded by Lake Naivasha. There are a few park guides who serve visitors on a first-come, first-served basis for NO FEE. Tipping them, on the other hand, is highly encouraged. Among the activities available to visitors are;

  • Walking among wild animals and enjoying them up-close
  • Photography
  • Guided nature walks/hike
  • Bird watching
  • Team building
  • Game viewing
  • Picnicking
  • Fishing

Animals On Cresent Island

The shores are teeming with birdlife, including pelicans, cormorants, and fish-falcons, which have a haunting cry. There are lots of animals per acre of land than in any other Kenyan Park, henceforth many film organizations have been to the Island to film among them. They include;

Masai Giraffe, Hippopotamus, Cape Buffalo, Impala, Defassa Waterbuck, Wildebeest, Burchells Zebra, Thompsons Gazelle, Grants Gazelle, Bat Eared Fox, Kirks Dik Dik, Bushbuck, White-tailed Mongoose, Spring Hare, Vervet Monkey, Silver Backed Jackal and African Rock Python.

Because the park is located in the middle of the lake, animals cannot wander on and off to the mainland. However, hippos graze all over at night then sleep under the acacia trees or rest in the water by day. Often, three generations of giraffes can be seen at a time since they were born on the island. On a lucky day, you can spot one of the beautiful pythons that live in the sanctuary. Jackals are the only predators around and some buffalos got stuck on the mainland before the lake water levels rose.
